Calling all artists for Napier Pop-Up Art Shop

Art of all kinds will be on sale in a pop-up art shop at Creative Arts Napier (CAN) in Byron St, from Friday October 21st to Thursday November 10th.

Artists and sculptors are welcome to bring works for the selection to be sold, and do not need to be members of art groups, says organizer Sheryl Eustace.

Sheryl first saw the concept overseas about seven years ago.

“I came home and told Winnie (Doevendans) about it and then we thought, let’s try here in Hawke’s Bay.”

Sheryl and co-host Winnie chose CAN because they wanted to try something different.

“Four pop-up shops have already taken place in Hastings and Art Hawke’s Bay is delighted to be holding this one in Napier. Artwork will be shortlisted, so artists should choose their best work to enter.”

There will be a limit of two paintings per person, posted at $10 per painting.
A commission on sales is charged by CAN.

“Here’s your chance to treat yourself to new artwork for Christmas – or perhaps a great gift solution while supporting local artists.”

There are no theme or medium restrictions.

“It’s for them (the artists). As we realized years ago, artists don’t have the ability to sell their work outside of galleries.”

Sheryl says each work must have a tag attached to the back with the name, title, medium and price or they will not be accepted.

All exhibits will be for sale.

“It will be a pay-to-go concept, so artists may be asked to bring in another piece of art.”

Registration details must be emailed to Sheryl or Winnie by Monday October 10th.

“They can also add their phone number. We then have to provide it to CAN so they can print labels.”

Works must be at CAN on Thursday, October 20, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The selection will take place at 2 p.m.

“Once applications are received, I will compile a list of those who will participate and email them regarding any additional information.”
