Family-owned Mermaid Seafoods, North Wales’ largest seafood wholesaler, plans to start the new year on a high note by opening a new state-of-the-art store in Llandudno.

Since 1984 and over two generations, Mermaid Seafoods has for years sourced fresh fish and seafood for restaurants, hotels and private customers in North Wales.

Now, to celebrate the Year of the Sea in Wales in 2018, they are moving into new premises to enable them to serve the freshest seasonal catches to visitors and locals alike.

Supporting the local community is something that managers Sonya and Wayne Jones have always been passionate about, from sourcing product directly from local fishermen to employing over 14 local people, having recently hired two new employees to help with the new store.

Mermaid Seafoods offers only the freshest, most local produce – with crab and lobster arriving from the local beach which is a five-minute drive away.

They also ensure that customers only buy crabs that are sustainably caught, handpicked and graded for the best quality.

It is their commitment to only land larger crabs that has guaranteed the future of their fishery and allowed them to grow their business. The new unit will be close to their existing site at Cae Bach on Builder Street.

Visit Wales launched the ‘Year of the Sea’ campaign in December, a year-long celebration of the epic experiences on the Welsh coastline.
