Pop-up gallery and art shop are back
A group of artists will reopen their pop-up shop and gallery in the city center.
Absolutely Artisan found success earlier in the year when it took a place in the Royal Arcade.
And now the team announces its return and will be there from October 18 to 31.
Absolutely Artisan was founded by local artists Safi Butler, 41, and Rachel Collier-Wilson, 53.
Rachel said: “As artists we are passionate about Norwich and want to help create a vibrant independent shopping experience in the heart of the city centre.”
Rachel contacted a few agents advertising retail units in the heart of Norwich, hoping to negotiate a short-term rental, and was delighted to find the Royal Arcade had offered them a place.
She said: “We have entered a second two-week rental period following the overwhelming positive feedback from the pop-up shop in September.
“Throughout the two weeks, we’ll be joined by several other talented artists and creators, and we’ll be hosting a few artists’ workshops upstairs.”
The shop will sell labor as well as crafting supplies.
Rachel and Safi said they recognize that Norwich Makers, as a community, are very keen to support each other in regenerating an independent shopping experience in Norwich.
They said they were very hopeful that short-term commercial space rentals would become a regular and accessible business.
“With a shared vision of bringing economic and community life back to central Norwich, pop-up shops can create a place for a shopping and fun experience that cannot be replicated online,” said Rachel.
Absolutely Artisan will be in Unit 5 of the Royal Arcade, Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-4pm.
They said they chose artists who they felt would complement each other rather than compete with each other.
