These Milwaukee-area craft stores offer vacation craft classes or take-out kits



With the supply chain and staff shortages further stressing holiday shopping, there might be another solution: DIY gifts.

Many craft stores in the area offer take-out classes or kits to create holiday decor, ornaments, or gifts that cannot be found anywhere else.

“The gifts you give yourself are special because it’s so much more personal,” said Irina Miech, owner of Eclectica Beads in New Berlin. “If you give someone a gift that you make with your hands, you put so much into it.”

Here are seven arts and crafts stores in the Milwaukee area that have DIY gifts.

The Potter’s Shop

The Potter’s Shop has many pottery classes listed on their website that you can use to make DIY gifts.

A holiday favorite is a Christmas elf cookie jar. This unique course is offered from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on November 12. Cost: $ 45, including all material

A unique pottery wheel sampling course allows participants to create a creation and choose a glaze color. It runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on November 19. It takes about four weeks before the finished works are ready to be picked up. Cost: $ 40 for the class and $ 10 to keep an extra room.

Eclectic Pearls

Eclectica Beads offers a variety of kits at various prices.

The kits come with links to an online video on Facebook, Miech said. Kits for snowflakes and snowmen are popular.

Another option is to attend one of the store’s craft workshops.

Eclectica Beads is offering a workshop from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm on November 20 to make a Royal Rivoli bracelet using Swarovski Rivolis and other crystals. Cost: $ 28; materials must be purchased separately.

A Royal Chess bracelet creation workshop is offered from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on November 24. Participants can use rich colors and Thunder Polish bugle beads to create a geometric-inspired pattern. Cost: $ 28; supplies must be purchased prior to class.

Make an “Ice Beauty Pendant” from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm on November 27th. According to the Eclectica Beads website, the pendant is a delicate, lacy sculpture of a snowflake. Cost: $ 32; materials must be purchased separately.

Nature’s Elements in Silver runs from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on November 28. Participants will make a mold of objects such as twigs, buttons, stones and other natural elements to create organic pendants, charms and other jewelry. Fired pieces can be picked up three days after the course. This is a course suitable for beginners. Cost: $ 55; supplies are included.

Meiko Bella Studio

MeikoBella Studio Offers Ornament Making Course and Three Holiday Decorating Events

The theme for the Ornament Making Class on November 17 is Klimnt Night. The course takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost: $ 30, plus $ 10 for an additional ornament.

The holiday decorating events take place on December 2, 9 and 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On December 2, participants will be able to paint two marshmallow figurines on canvas. On December 9, participants will paint Christmas trees on heavy paper with wine such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay. On December 16, the theme is Mingle and Jingle, where attendees will use a holiday theme to decorate a piece of wood. Cost: $ 50 per class.

Just oven time

At Just Kiln ‘Time, budding artists can complete an art project on location, including painting your own pottery, glass fusion, or mosaic.

The cost ranges from $ 8 for studio time to around $ 80 for supplies.

The courses are listed online. Pottery kits are available to take away; the projects will be ready about a week after their return.

Just knot beads

Knot Just Beads offers classes, a place to do beadwork, and a variety of bead craft ideas.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 19 and 20, the boutique will be hosting a Stag Widow Weekend, offering the opportunity to come and celebrate beadwork. There will be daily specials and classes.

The wool applique will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on November 19. Participants will create a monogrammed ornament. Cost: $ 45, supplies included

Bead Embroidery Rings are available from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on November 20. Cost: $ 30, including supplies

Torch work lessons are scheduled one-on-one; contact the store for available times. Participants can learn how to melt glass with the Minor Bench Burner torch to create torch beads. The limit is two students per session. Cost: $ 80 per person for four hours

Located in Thiensville, glaze, a destination art studio, has a pottery workshop and ice cream parlor with take-out kits, studio painting, glass melting and painting on wine glass.

There are 400-500 pieces including popcorn cups and bowls to choose from. Participants request a color, get a kit to make the item, and send the item back for printing. You can also request custom kits for glass melting and wine glass painting.

Prices vary; call or stop by to see a variety of kit options.

Painting with Santa will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on November 28, where kids can create fused glass ornaments, paint hand-printed reindeer plates, carve snowman dishes, and arrange cupcakes in a jar. There will also be photos with Santa Claus and ice cream. Cost: $ 75 plus taxes. Pre-registration is encouraged online; Space is limited.

Arts Fair

Art Lounge and Wine Bar offers a variety of classes and plans to add canvas, wood plank, wineglass, ornament, pottery, and jewelry classes later in November and December. Course details will be posted online.

The Cute Snowman course (pre-sketch) is offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on November 13. Doors open at 10:30 am; participants must arrive by 10:45 am Cost: $ 30, includes 16 x 20 inch canvas, painting supplies and instructions.

The Angel Paint course is offered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on November 17. Cost: $ 30, includes 12 x 16 inch canvas, painting supplies, and instructions. Doors open at 6 p.m. participants must arrive before 6:15 am.

The Pretty Poppies painting class runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on November 19. Cost: $ 30, includes 12 x 16 inch canvas, painting supplies, and instructions. Doors open at 6 p.m. participants must arrive before 6:15 am.
