Volunteer time

The Polk Township Fire Company volunteers have been very busy. They responded to 16 emergencies, completed 174 hours of training, and participated in 134 hours of fundraising in March and April they responded to 20 emergencies, totaling 77 emergency responses by the end of April.

They also completed 186 hours of training and participated in 42 hours of fundraising.

PV Arts Awards

The Pleasant Valley High School Performing Arts Awards are due to be presented at 6 p.m. today.

Legion Auxiliary

The Legion Auxiliary, Unit 927, will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert. Guests are welcome.

Polk Meeting

A general meeting of Polk Township Supervisors is set for 8 a.m. Thursday at the Kresgeville Municipal Building.

PVHS Spring Choir

On Thursday, the PV High School Choir Spring Concert will be presented from 7 to 8 p.m. in the new high school auditorium.

WELL Council meets

The West End Little League board is due to meet at 7.30pm at Chestnuthill Township Park. This is reserved for members of the board of directors. Next Wednesday is the public session at the same time and at the same place.

PV school board

The PV School District school board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the district office.

brotherhood event

The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church in Brodheadsville meets at noon Friday. Anyone 55 and over wishing to attend is welcome, but is asked to bring a dish to share.

Fundraising for young people

Youth of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church raises funds for Philadelphia Dream Center Mission Day. Anyone who wants to buy some pastelillos, see one of the young people, or get in touch with Pastor Marcos and Pastor Yaz.

Flea market

The St. Peter’s UMC spring flea market will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a rain date of May 21. The church is located next to Dollar General on Route 115.

Food will be available, at a cost, from the church kitchen. Vendor spaces can be reserved by calling 570-992-6930.

The fall flea market will take place on September 17.

The garden opens

The Garden of the Don, McMichaels, will be open again from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to prepare for the planting of crops on May 21. In addition to volunteers, including members of the board of directors, the garden is looking for someone competent as a beekeeper. Bees are the hard workers of any garden and are necessary for the pollination of crops. A side benefit will be delicious, golden honey.

Bike evening organized

An open bike night is being held Saturday at American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert, sponsored by Legion Riders Chapter 927.

The event, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., features food, drink, and classic rock music from DJ Jammin Joe.

There will also be a contest for the best bike and a 50/50 draw.

Sunday breakfast

Sciota Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 839 is hosting its first pancake breakfast of the season this Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Hangar, 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg.

Directions are: Exit Route 209 at Miller’s Flower Shop by Kate.

Breakfast includes unlimited pancakes, sausages, orange juice and coffee for a set price. A giant striped tent will provide shade and ambiance for the breakfasts as they are surrounded by private jets and stunning British automobiles: the Keystone British Car Club will be displaying their prized vehicles.

Additionally, EAA 839 pilots will be offering free Young Eagle flights to youth ages 7-17. Parental release forms are required.

Riders meeting

The American Legion Riders monthly meeting is rescheduled for May 15 at 10:30 a.m. at American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road/Route 209, Gilbert, due to Mother’s Day being celebrated last Sunday.

Monday Bingo

American Legion Post 927, from 6:30 p.m., with card sales is a public bingo location. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Prepare

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host a flea market volunteer meeting at McCawley Hall at 6.30pm on Tuesday.

The canton cancels

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will not meet on Tuesday due to the primary election.

Valiant Support

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will host the Valor Monthly Support Meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting is open to everyone. Guests welcome.

Open pantry

Effort UMC’s SFRC Pantry is open 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Organized soup sale

Three kinds of soups are being offered by Effort UMC for its upcoming soup sale: shrimp, roasted corn chowder, and old-fashioned ham and beans. Orders must be placed by next Wednesday.

Pickup is May 22.

Breakfast served

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is serving its monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. this Sunday.

Movie time at church

Effort UMC teens and tweens and their respective friends can enjoy a movie right after the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

Registration is required. The film is called: I believe.

Effort wire group

The Effort UMC Prayer Shawl group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Academic Awards

The PV High School Academic Awards will be presented at 6 p.m. on May 18.

Township of Eldred

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. May 18 at the Municipal Building on Kunkletown Road.

Poppy sale set

Members of the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will begin their poppy sales May 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1st Northern Bank.

The ongoing sales schedule includes: 1-5 p.m., Kinsley’s ShopRite, May 21; 1 to 5 p.m., ShopRite, May 25; and May 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ESSA Bank.

Can run/walk

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced the eighth annual Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail Run/Walk at West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township, starting at 9 a.m. on May 22.

All proceeds will fund the Dave Fleetwood Memorial Scholarship to recognize a Pleasant Valley High School graduate who exemplifies the exceptional qualities of Mr. Fleetwood.

firefighters carnival

On June 2, 3 and 4, the West End Firefighters Carnival is due to take place at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert. Proceeds from this event will benefit the four local fire companies.

Bands featured include: starting at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, The Hawks and the Cramer Brothers Band; beginning at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Chris Eckert and the Brian Dean Moore Band; and Saturday, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Brothers; and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Midnight Special.

A variety of food and beverages will be available nightly.

Sponsors are always sought after and craft vendors sought after.
